Refund Policy
We want you to feel comfortable trying Evidence Based Vocabulary. The free trial is genuinely free — no credit card required. After you convert to a paid subscription, we offer a 7-day no-questions-asked refund on your first paid month. After that window, you can cancel at any time and we will not charge you again, but we do not offer prorated refunds for partial months.
- 14-day free trial: no charge, nothing to refund.
- First 7 days after your first paid charge: full refund on request, no reason required.
- After 7 days: cancel anytime — no further charges, but no prorated refund for unused days in the current month.
- Refunds: processed back to your original payment method within 5–10 business days.
- Need help? Email hello@evidencebasedvocabulary.com — we read every message.
1. The 14-day free trial
Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial. We do not require a credit card or any other payment method to begin the trial — there is nothing to charge and therefore nothing to refund. You can cancel during the trial without any action on your part: if you do not convert to a paid subscription before the trial ends, your trial expires and you are not charged.
2. First paid month — 7-day no-questions-asked refund
If you convert from the free trial to a paid subscription and then change your mind within 7 days of your first paid charge, we will refund that charge in full. The 7-day window begins on the date of your first paid charge. You do not need to give us a reason. Just email hello@evidencebasedvocabulary.com with the subject line “Refund request” and the email address on your account, and we will process the refund within 1–2 business days. The refund will appear on your original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
The 7-day window applies only to your first conversion to paid. If you cancel and later resubscribe, subsequent paid charges are governed by section 3 below.
3. After the 7-day window
After the 7-day no-questions-asked window has passed, you may still cancel your subscription at any time, for any reason, through the Customer Portal in your parent dashboard or by emailing hello@evidencebasedvocabulary.com. Cancellation stops future charges immediately.
However, we do not offer prorated refunds for unused days within the current billing month. If you cancel mid-month, you keep full access to the Service through the end of the period you have already paid for, and you will not be charged again. This is the same approach used by most month-to-month consumer-software subscriptions.
You may also pause an active subscription for one, two, or three months from the parent dashboard. Pauses begin at the end of the current paid period and do not create a prorated refund. Billing resumes automatically on the date shown when you confirm the pause unless you resume earlier or cancel.
4. Coupon-discounted purchases
If you used a coupon or promotional code to subscribe, any refund you become eligible for under this policy will equal the actual amount you paid, not the full list price of the subscription. For example, if a coupon brought your first month from $20.00 to $10.00 and you request a refund within the 7-day window, we will refund $10.00. Refunds are not paid in cash, store credit, or replacement coupons.
If a coupon brought your charge to $0, there is nothing to refund — but you can still cancel your subscription at any time and your card will not be charged at the next billing cycle.
5. Quick reference
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| You're in the 14-day free trial | No charge ever applied. If you cancel or do nothing, the trial just ends. No refund needed. |
| You converted to paid; it's been 7 days or fewer | Full refund of the first paid charge on request. No reason required. |
| You converted to paid; it's been more than 7 days | Cancel anytime — no further charges, no prorated refund for the current month, full access through the end of the period you've paid for. |
| You used a coupon | Refund equals what you actually paid, not the full list price. |
| You see a charge you didn't authorize, or a billing error | See section 6 — please email us first; we will resolve it. |
| The Service had an extended outage that prevented you from using it | See section 7 — we may issue a goodwill refund at our discretion. |
6. Disputed charges and billing errors
If you see a charge from Evidence Based Vocabulary that you do not recognize, or believe a charge is in error, please email us first at hello@evidencebasedvocabulary.com with the subject line “Billing question.” We will investigate and respond within 2 business days. In the great majority of cases, billing questions can be resolved this way without involving your bank.
7. Goodwill refunds
In exceptional circumstances (for example, an extended outage, a billing error or accidental double charge, or a serious quality issue we couldn't resolve) we may issue a goodwill refund or service credit at our discretion. Examples of situations in which we would consider this:
- An extended outage that materially prevented you from using the Service.
- A serious bug that affected your child's progress and could not be remedied within a reasonable time.
- A documented hardship affecting your household.
Goodwill refunds are not a right and are not part of any pattern; we evaluate each request individually. Email hello@evidencebasedvocabulary.com with the subject line “Goodwill refund request” and a short description of the circumstances.
8. How we process refunds
All refunds are processed by our payment processor, Stripe, back to the original payment method that was charged. We cannot issue a refund to a different card, bank account, or method. After we initiate the refund:
- Credit and debit cards: typically 5–10 business days for the refund to appear on your statement, depending on your card issuer.
- Other payment methods: follow the timing your provider sets; in most cases similar to credit cards.
- Currency conversion: if your card was charged in a currency other than U.S. dollars, the refunded amount in your local currency may differ slightly from the original charge because of exchange-rate movement between the two transactions. We refund the original USD amount, not a fixed local amount.
9. Effect of a refund on your account
When we issue a refund for a paid charge, your subscription for the period covered by that charge ends, and your account moves into the soft-delete grace policy described in our Terms of Service section 15. You can restore the account during the 7-day grace window by clicking the recovery link we email at the moment of cancellation. After 7 days, the data is permanently removed.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. The version line at the top of this page will reflect the current version, and material changes will be communicated as described in our Terms of Service section 16. Refund eligibility for any specific charge is governed by the version of this policy in effect at the time of that charge.
